Grandview Hospital VP Named Kettering College Alumna of the Year

Kettering, Ohio (Nov. 16) – Brenda Kuhn, vice president for patient care services at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, has been named the Kettering College of Medical Arts Alumna of the Year. Previously earning the same award in 1988, Kuhn is the only alumna twice-honored in this way in the 35-year history of the College’s alumni association.

Kuhn graduated from Kettering College of Medical Arts in 1981 with an associate’s degree in nursing. After earning her bachelor’s in nursing from Wright State in 1983, she went on eventually to earn a Ph.D. in public administration from the University of Southern California in 1994. Included in her long list of accomplishments is a stint as an assistant professor and clinical coordinator for Kettering College’s nursing program from 1985-88. She returned to Dayton from Southern California, where she served as chief operating officer and senior associate director of operations at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica.

“When I interviewed Brenda for the position at Grandview, I asked her why she chose to come to Kettering College for nursing when there were so many other programs in the area. She told me that her decision was made based on the reputation of our college’s nursing program. She has always been happy for her decision, and that says it all,” said Gloria Ceballos, vice president for patient services for Kettering Memorial Hospital. “I am honored to have a colleague at Grandview with whom to share leadership among our nurses and to care for the patients in our communities.”

“Brenda has a broad strategic vision for her areas of responsibility, as well as for our organization as a whole; she is also ever-mindful of the need for attention to detail. She works hard but always takes time for her staff and colleagues,” said Roy Chew, president of Grandview and Southview Hospitals. “She is devoted to the faith-based mission of our Network and to the inner-city mission of our Grandview campus. I am grateful that she is here!”

The Kettering College of Medical Arts Alumni Association advances the mission and vision of the College by mentoring and enriching personal and professional relationships among college alumni. “The College alumni association is rapidly being recognized as a key resource of the personal, academic, and professional growth of the college family,” says new alumni association president Teresa Simmons, ’91, “Brenda has played an important part in making that happen since she has been back at Kettering.”
