Kettering College Prepares for 41st Commencement

On Saturday, May 2, Kettering College of Medical Arts will confer degrees and certificates on 234students at the school’s 41st annual commencement ceremonies. The event will be held at the Dayton Convention Center, starting at 8 p.m., and is open to the public. Karl Haffner, Ph.D., senior pastor at Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church, will be the keynote speaker.

College president Dr. Charles Scriven will grant 169 Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees in the following areas: nursing (111), radiologic technology (21), medical sonography (21), respiratory care (13), and nuclear medicine (3). Three certificates of completion in magnetic resonance imaging and three in computed tomography also will be granted.

A total of 43 bachelor’s degrees will be awarded, including 12 to graduates of the Bachelor of Science in human biology program. Twenty-one Bachelor of Science in health professions degrees will be granted in the following specialties: advanced imaging (11), health care professional studies (7), and medical sonography (3). Ten Bachelor of Science in nursing degrees will be presented as well.

Also notable will be the commencement of 20 students from the school’s graduate program, the Master of Physician Assistant Studies.

Nine of the graduating students will receive special recognition as members of the Vaughan-Beaven Service Learning Honors Program. These honors graduates are Juliette Burnham (human biology), Katherine Marshall (nursing), Tiffany Osman (radiologic technology), Kristin Phipps (nursing), Gregory Puthoff (human biology), Melanie Roth (nursing), Jennifer Schmersal (radiologic technology), Katherine Sherwood (nursing), and Lauren Wiley (human biology).

Guest speaker Dr. Karl Haffner is senior pastor of the Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church and mission strategist for Kettering Health Network. He has bachelor’s degrees in theology and business from Walla Walla (Wash.) University, a Master of Business Administration degree from Pacific Lutheran University, and both Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Andrews (Mich.) University. He is author of several books and has written hundreds of articles published in journals such as theAdventist Review,Insight,Signs of the Times, andChristian Living.
