Kettering College prepares for 47th commencement

OnSaturday, May 2, Kettering College will confer degrees and certificates on 239 students at the school’s 47th annual commencement ceremonies. The event will be held at the Dayton Convention Center, starting at8 p.m., and is open to the public. Leslie Martin, a professor at La Sierra University and a health researcher, who has collaborated in two long-term research studies on health and longevity, will be the keynote speaker.

College president Nate Brandstater will grant 36 Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees in the following areas: radiologic technology (21) and respiratory care (15). Three certificates of completion in computed tomography and one in magnetic resonance imaging also will be granted.

A total of 159 bachelor’s degrees will be awarded, including 104 to graduates of the Bachelor of Science in nursing. Twenty-one Bachelor of Science in diagnostic medical sonography degrees and 15 Bachelor of Science in human biology degrees will be presented. Nineteen Bachelor of Science in health sciences degrees will be granted in the following specialties: health care management (2), respiratory care (4), advanced imaging (11) and health care education (2).

Also notable will be the commencement of 40 students from the school’s graduate program, the Master of Physician Assistant Studies. This will be the 40thgraduating class from Kettering College’s physician assistant program, which is the longest continuously running PA program in the state of Ohio.

Six of the graduating students will receive special recognition as members of the Vaughan-Beaven Service Learning Honors Program. These honors graduates are Megan Broerman (Human Biology), Nathan Hoyt (Human Biology), Esther Hwang (Human Biology), Xuan Quyen Vu (Nursing), Erica Larranaga (Sonography), and Timothy Miller (Sonography).
