Kettering College to host seventh annual BeadforLife event Dec. 9-11

Kettering College will sponsor its seventh annual BeadforLife event fromWednesday, Dec. 9, through Friday, Dec. 11. In support of this organization, college faculty and staff will be selling necklaces, bracelets, earrings and shea butter soap and lip balm – all Ugandan-made – from10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday on the ground floor of the Boonshoft Center for Medical Sciences.Purchases can be made using cash, check or credit card.

Coordinated by Kettering College English professor Jill Evans, the last six BeadforLife events at the school have raised a combined total of around $30,000 for the organization. This amount places Kettering College as one of the biggest donors to the Beadforlife organization.

BeadforLife (BFL) is a socially responsible global organization working with women, all of whom were living on less than $1 a day in extreme poverty. Based in North America and Uganda, BFL has partnered with industrious women who make vivid beaded jewelry out of recycled paper.

The beaders’ work has been sold at thousands of home parties, businesses and community-sponsored events around the world. All net profits from BFL sales are invested in projects that fight extreme poverty, primarily in health care, affordable housing, vocational training for impoverished youth, and entrepreneurial development through micro-credit for small businesses. More information about BeadforLife can be found atwww.beadforlife.org.
