Maria Rankin-Brown
Ph.D
Maria Rankin-Brown teaches communications, English, and humanities courses. Her focus in higher education is to empower students to think and communicate effectively by enhancing their reading, writing, and speaking skills.
Rankin-Brown earned a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Linguistics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, an MA in Communication from the University of Northern Colorado, and a BS in Journalism from Pacific Union College. Her research has focused on improving writing pedagogy, representations of the marginalized in literature, and sociolinguistic and cultural behaviors reflected (primarily) in nonwestern literature. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English (College Composition and Communication), and Sigma Tau Delta, the National English Honor Society.
She joined Kettering College in fall 2021. Rankin-Brown previously worked at Pacific Union College, California State University—Chico, Colorado Mesa University, Chattanooga State Community College, Southern Utah University, and the University of the Pacific.
