Online Courses Through Canvas

Canvas is the system used for online and hybrid courses.  Many courses use Canvas for communication, grade posting, material delivery, and testing.

A Canvas app is available.  Go to the App Store or Google Play and search for Canvas Student. Be aware that some course material will not display on a smartphone or tablet and you will need a computer to successfully complete the course.

Access Canvas

Canvas Username

Your username is your KCS number, including the KCS. (For example, KCS4010000)

Canvas Password

If you are logging in for the first time, click on the “Don’t know your password?” link and enter your Canvas username (see above) to request the change.

Now check your KC email and follow the link to set your new password.

The same process can be used if you forget your Canvas password in the future.

Help!  I can’t log in!

Are you a new student?  New student accounts are not activated until the week before classes begin.  If you are not a new student, see the instructions above for resetting your password or contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.

Help!  I don’t see any courses!

 Your professor hasn’t opened them yet.  Most professors open their courses a day or two before the semester begins.  If the semester has begun, contact your professor or the registrar’s office to make sure you are in the correct course.

Help!  My course isn’t working!

Are you using the proper device?  Chromebooks don’t work well. Some course material will not be displayed on a smartphone or tablet.  Check device requirements.

NOTE: New student Canvas accounts are not activated until the week before classes begin.
