ADRA to Visit Kettering College
ADRA, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency, focuses its work on people who are in poverty and distress to empower them to create positive change through partnerships. They are coming to our campus Thursday, October 26 through Saturday, October 28 to present a weekend of programming that is focused on leading discussions and sharing ways we can serve humanity.
ADRA representatives, Kenzie Hardy and Angel Castillo, will be leading the events in conjunction with our Resident Life department. Judith Mendoza, Resident Life associate director has collaborated with Kenzie and Angel in the past. She says, “Kenzie and Angel have a heart of service… I’m looking forward to having them come and share their opportunities to serve with our students, and we’re very excited to be hosting them.”
The ADRA group will set up a gallery wall in the south lobby on campus as well as a general booth in the student center. The weekend will include the following events:
Thursday, Oct 26:
- “Where Do We Belong?” photojournalistic gallery featuring people the ADRA storytelling team has encountered in different countries and projects that have the common theme of displacement and belongingness.
- KC Chats in the Dorm – Attendees will “Go Green with ADRA” and replant indoor plants for their dorm room while they discuss topics related to increasing awareness about ADRA’s work and ways to engage with their own humanitarian interests, such as mental health in emergencies, climate resilience projects, the pillars that encompass ADRA projects, their 2024 documentary release, and in general be available to answer student’s questions about ADRA.
Friday, Oct 27:
- Collective Night – Gather at Kettering Adventist Church to hear a message about displacement and refugees. ADRA will also connect with students during the afterglow.
Saturday, Oct 28: If you and your family attend Kettering Adventist Church, you can be a part of ADRA’s events at the services:
- Kids’ Program – to be presented between church services. If time allows, the ADRA group will read a book translated from their ADRA Mexico project called They Call Me a Migrant
- Glow Night Booth: Kids and their families will create their own ‘piggy bank’ and decorate it to match their favorite kid’s gift catalog item. They will also color the gift catalog itself, as it is set up as a coloring page.
We hope you can find the time to attend these special events that are intended to inform and invite us to serve others. Kenzie and Angel are looking forward to their visit to Kettering College. Kenzie says, “The ADRA Engagement Team aims to connect with individuals, communities, and organizations all over the United States to build a network of those interested in transforming their local and global communities. Together, we will create spaces to wrestle with the complexities of urgent humanitarian causes, discover ways we can positively impact the world around us, and remain connected through global and local efforts.”
