Kettering College Alumnae Honored by YWCA Dayton

Kettering, Ohio (Mar. 15) – Two Kettering College of Medical Arts alumnae –Susan Lapidus Katz and Karen Levin– were among seven local women to receive the Women of Influence Award at a recent luncheon held by the YWCA Dayton. The YWCA’s Woman of Influence honorees are women who have made a positive influence on the lives of others, as part of their careers, as volunteers, as role models and mentors.

A 1978 graduate from Kettering College’s nursing program, Susan Katz is best known for her extensive volunteer work in the Dayton area. In addition to her involvement with more than 10 local organizations, she is president of both the Women’s Division of Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton and the Miami Valley School Board of Trustees. Katz also was recipient of an Outstanding Young Women in America Award and the Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton’s Dorothy B. Moyer Young Leadership Award.

Karen Levin earned her physician assistant degree from Kettering College in 1996. She is currently the executive director, a trustee and secretary of the Levin Family Foundation. Prior to her appointment with the Levin Family Foundation, she was a physician assistant working in family practice and geriatrics. She is on the board of directors of the Dayton Area Diabetes Associate, the council on World Affairs, and Covenant House. She recently became the chairperson for the Montgomery County Citizens Corps.

“These remarkable women are examples of how Kettering College reaches out into the community through our well-regarded practitioners of the allied health sciences and nursing,” said Winona Wendth, director of college advancement and alumni relations. “These women are leaders who have been influenced by an outstanding faculty who believes in the transformative power of higher education and of healing. We are especially proud to be able to claim Susan and Karen as part of our college family.”
