MLK Memorial March Continues His Work
January 15, 2024 – Temperatures barely reached above zero for this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial March, but that didn’t stop over 1,500 people from around the greater Dayton area from participating. The annual march has been taking place for over 50 years in Dayton to honor the work of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Kettering Health and Kettering College join in the march every year, and this year was no exception. Police forces blocked off West Third Street, so marchers could walk together on this normally very busy street over the Dayton Peace Bridge, commencing at Sinclair Community College.
The participants themselves were a representation of what King’s vision was: people of all colors working together in harmony in the name of equality for all. Several African American fraternities and sororities and churches took part in the march, several of whom have been long-standing civil rights activists in the Dayton community for decades.
Thanks to all Kettering College students, faculty, and staff who walked together in the cold to continue the work Dr. King started in the 1960s and continues to be so important today in Dayton and across the country.
