New Outreach and Service-Learning Program Launches
Serving others in our community and beyond is an integral part of Kettering College’s curriculum. Our college partners with local organizations every month to provide opportunities for students to stretch themselves past their comfort zones and experience the power of service.
In fact, service is such a vital part of our holistic teaching that we have created a new outreach and service-learning program to continually inform students of volunteer opportunities as they arise. Renee Fite is the coordinator of the program and has been collaborating with area non-profit organizations to develop the offerings and discover what is needed.
She recently teamed up with adjunct professor Deb Stump to hold their annual health fair along with several students from the nursing division. The event was held at a mobile food pantry, With God’s Grace, an organization that participates in our outreach program. It is events such as this that build ongoing relationships with organizations to build their trust and allow us to serve them.
Renee explains Kettering College’s new outreach and service-learning program, “Provides students with service-learning opportunities they can participate in as part of their curriculum, or as an extra-curricular experience. It strengthens their exposure and commitment to service as a lifelong priority. It also connects well with our institutional pillars of Service, Leadership, Faith, and Scholarship.”
Among many others, some organizations participating in our program are:
- Dayton Food Bank
- St. Vincent DePaul
- Good Neighbor House
- YWCA
Renee invites you to review the new community outreach and volunteer opportunities page here. She encourages you to check the website often as new opportunities are added as they arise. Students should communicate with their professors to ensure the volunteer opportunities they are pursuing meet the requirements of a class’s service-learning expectations.
Please email Renee directly if you have questions or know of organizations that might be in need of our assistance. We look forward to creating a ripple effect of change in the Greater Dayton area and beyond.
