Respiratory Care Program Receives Recognition for One of the Most Credible Programs Nationwide

KETTERING, Ohio, July 15-17, 2014 – The Kettering College respiratory care program recently received the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credentialing Success award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). Of the 441 accredited respiratory care programs in the United States, only 43 programs received this award alongside Kettering College.

Programs receiving this award must meet 4 criteria: They must have a substantial number of graduates who earn the CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) credential and the RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) credential, they must maintain a low dropout rate of students in the program, and have positive job placement of their recent graduates. Kettering’s respiratory program met and exceeded all of these standards by a significant amount including 100% of graduates earning their CRT and RRT credentials.

Respiratory care program Director and Professor, Nancy Colletti, PhD, RRT, RCP, a Kettering College faculty for 14 years says, “This award highlights the quality of education we have here.”

Nancy also mentions that Kettering graduates seem to be more successful in job placement because of the high passing rate in their credentialing exams, which then leads to being hired at a rapid pace after they complete the program. Nancy says, “We have some hospitals who have said to us that they do prefer our grads. When they have an applicant that is from Kettering College, the graduate will get an interview.”

The conference where this award was presented was at The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) Summer Forum for Managers and Educators which was held July 15-17 in Marco Island, Florida. The conference provided the faculty with an opportunity to learn more from CoARC regarding updated 2015 standards for entry into respiratory care profession, advanced practice respiratory therapist, evaluating student competencies, classroom technologies, and simulations.
