Kettering College Faculty Member Named Ohio Respiratory Care Education Practitioner of the Year

Kettering, Ohio (Oct. 6) – At the 30th annual state meeting of the Ohio Society for Respiratory Care (OSRC) in Columbus lastweek, Kettering College of Medical Arts faculty member Nancy Colletti was named Ohio Education Practitioner of the Year for 2008.

A total of seven respiratory care educators from across Ohio were nominated for the award. Nominations were made by members of the OSRC to recognize outstanding co-workers, employees, or colleagues in the areas of diagnostics, home care, rehabilitation, management, neonatal/pediatrics and education. The winner was selected by the OSRC board of directors based upon the nominee’s qualities of leadership, mentorship, clinical expertise, team building, professionalism and community involvement.

“I was very surprised to hear I was nominated, and even more surprised to hear my name called as the winner. I know a few of the other nominees personally, and they are outstanding educators who are very involved in the professional organization,” said Colletti, who is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Respiratory Care at Kettering College. “I tend to be an ‘under-the-radar’ type of person. If I see a job that needs to be done, or if I see an opportunity to contribute, I’ll just roll up my sleeves and jump in there until I’ve done the best I can. Receiving this award was quite heartening, and knowing it comes from my peers is especially gratifying.”

In addition to her duties at Kettering College, Colletti serves on the OSRC Program Planning Committee, is the education chair for the OSRC, is chair of the OSRC Scholarship Committee, and is an OSRC “Sputum Bowl” judge. Colletti also serves on the board of directors for the Lambda Beta Honor Society, which is the national honor society for the profession of respiratory care.

The Ohio Society for Respiratory Care is a not-for-profit organization that is a chartered affiliate of the American Association for Respiratory Care. In its attempt to serve the needs of respiratory therapists in the state of Ohio, the goals of the OSRC are to encourage, develop and provide education for respiratory therapists; to advance the science, technology, ethics and art of respiratory care through meetings, lectures, publications and other materials; to facilitate cooperation and understanding among respiratory care practitioners and other allied health care professions, the public, hospitals, service companies, the health care industry, government organizations, and other agencies; and to provide education to the public on pulmonary health promotion & disease prevention.
