Jerry Cervantes began his faculty career in 2022 as an Assistant Professor at Kettering College. He earned his Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from Sinclair Community College in 2012, received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ohio University in 2014, and he completed his Master of Nursing in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Northern Kentucky University in 2020. Jerry began nursing as a Medical/Surgical nurse for 1 year at Atrium Medical Center in Middletown before working for 5 years in the Emergency Department at Kettering Health Washington Twp (Southview). He then transferred to Kettering Health Dayton (Grandview) to do hospital supervision which he did full-time until 2022. He still supports both hospitals as a resource supervisor while functioning as full-time faculty. Cervantes began his adult life as a medic in the U.S. Army from 1991 to 1995, he served in Germany and Washington D.C. before leaving the military and becoming a member of the American Red Cross to support the military. As a member of the American Red Cross, he worked in several different capacities. Most recently as a Director of Preparedness and Response overseeing 136 local Red Cross offices in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Michigan supporting their disaster, health and safety, military service, and international service programs. He deployed with the military on peacekeeping missions and was deployed to large-scale disasters across the country from 1996 to 2008. He returned to school in 2008 to make a full return to healthcare, where his original passion for helping his community began.
