A new year’s greeting from the desk of KCMA president, Dr. Charles Scriven

While singing old songs at a Christmas lunch in early December, I was struck with words from“Winter Wonderland.” Not long after the familiar “Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,” comes this verse:

Later on, we’ll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

A new year is a new opportunity. And what supports the whole holiday season is the conviction, rooted in the Bible, thatit makes sense to make plans. For all the trials we face, the world is still open to our dreams. “To face unafraid, / The plans that we’ve made”— that’s right at the heart, I think, of the Kettering spirit.

You career choice already sends a signal: instead of living in a cloud of ignorance, or trampling the feelings of others, or wasting time, you’re going to get the degree that will help you meet human need.

So go into the New Year unafraid. Your teachers and the rest of us who provide support are proud of you.
