Community Health Worker Certificate Program
Admission to the certificate program occurs three times each year – fall, spring, and summer semesters. The application process will remain open year-round, and each applicant will be associated with the next available cohort. Students may be added to a waitlist or admitted to the next available cohort with an open seat.
We are an approved program by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
Applicants qualified for admission must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Be a United States Citizen or possess a visa permitting permanent residence in the United States
- Demonstrate commitment to improving access for underserved communities- Applicants currently living in West Dayton/Trotwood will be considered with the highest priority.
*Students accepted into the program must maintain all admission requirements from the time of acceptance until their program start date.
*Students must complete 130 hours of a community-based practicum as required by the Ohio Board of Nursing for state certification. Kettering College assists students to identify and complete the required community-based practicum with local hospitals, healthcare providers, and nonprofit organizations. Students may not miss more than 5 days of class to be eligible for certification from the Ohio Board of Nursing.
*Important:
There are 25 seats in the program for each cohort and these will be selected based on grant criteria. Applying does not guarantee you a spot in our program, but it is the first step to be considered. Step two is to turn in all necessary documents. Once you have submitted your application and all required documentation (high school or GED completion) our team will begin the review and determination process.
Each semester, 25 candidates are selected for the cohort and a waitlist is created for eligible candidates if spots open. Please note, this program is in very high demand, thus, not all applicants earn a seat in the program. All applications are reviewed based on the time they are received and may be offered enrollment for future terms, based on capacity.
