Kettering College Offers New three-year Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care

KETTERING, Ohio,May 7, 2015In fall of 2015 Kettering College will be offering a Bachelors of Science Degree in respiratory care that can be obtained in three years.

The newly accredited three-year respiratory care bachelor’s degree will address a higher level of critical thinking skills and more extensive learning than the Associate of Science degree. Students will undertake an accelerated course schedule to include 9 semesters.The new BS Degree was approved in September of 2014 by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and will begin admitting students in fall of 2015. The application deadline to apply for this new program isJuly 1, 2015.

Nancy Colletti, respiratory care program director, says that most respiratory care bachelor degrees are four-year programs, in which the students don’t start core respiratory classes until their junior year. “We’re a unique program that is striving to standout by offering a different path of quality healthcare education by finishing in only three years.” The new degree allows students to be admitted without any prior college experience.

“Over the last several years Kettering College has shifted toward bachelor’s degrees and higher academic programs to match the needs of today’s healthcare environment,” saysPresident Nate Brandstater. “This change in our respiratory degree is an example of our continued pursuit of innovation and excellence.”

TheKettering Collegerespiratory program alsorecently they received the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credentialing Success award from theCoARC for the second year in a row.Of the 441 accredited respiratory care programs in the United States, only 43 programs received thisaward in 2014 alongsideKetteringCollege.From a program effectiveness perspective, the CoARC views the RRT credential as a measure of the program’s success in inspiring its graduates to achieve their highest educational and professional aspirations.

Kettering College will be hosting an open house to explain details of the new three-year respiratory bachelor’s as well presenting all their other programs on Wednesday, May 13 from6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.at 3737 Southern Boulevard, Kettering, OH 45429. This event is free and open to the public.
