Kettering College Students Join Millions of Volunteers on Make A Difference Day

Kettering College students had the opportunity this weekend to unite with an estimated 3 million volunteers across the nation with a common mission – to improve the lives of others.

For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine, in partnership with Points of Light, has brought you Make A Different Day. According to USA Today, Make A Difference Day is the largest national day of community service. Kettering College students, faculty, and staff have joined this nationwide service effort for the past 8 years.

This year, a group of Kettering College students were able to help with outdoor home maintenance and yard work for an elderly lady who needed assistance.

Katherine Vicente, a sophomore Human Biology major at Kettering College, shared her experience, “I simply raked leaves and trimmed the branches on the trees around her house. It was such a small act, yet she was so incredibly grateful.”

Katherine explained how the woman had expressed to her that her young grandson, who lives with her, refused to go outside and help with what needed to be done. However, once he saw the group of Kettering students volunteering, he came outside to work alongside them. “He even said he would now be willing to help his grandmother in the future,” stated Katherine.”It was amazing to see how much of a difference one person can really make in the lives of others by simply getting involved.”
