Health Block Party Impacts Dayton Community
On April 8, Kettering College, the Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church, and the Kettering Health Network (KHN) collaborated with the Potter’s House in West Dayton in hosting a block party focusing on health.
College students along with healthcare professionals and local volunteers had the opportunity to minister and serve over 800 local residents.
The Health Block Party provided basic health services to the West Dayton community who would otherwise not have access or opportunity.
“The people of the community may have needed this but so did we (KHN). We needed to see there are people right under our noses who need to know about what we do. We needed to see that the unavailability of decent healthcare and community is much closer to home than we think,” expressed Jasmyne Martin, a junior nursing student at Kettering College. “This is where we start with our ministry and what better way to do it! Everyone loved it and I can’t wait for the next time!”
From health care to fun activities, the Health Block Party provided health screenings, dental education, as well as food service, shoes for the homeless, face painting, and more.
Students believed that the opportunity was highly rewarding. Sonoka Fanwar, a junior Nursing student stated, “It was amazing to see how the event brought a lot of people together to serve a common goal and purpose.”
