Kettering College: A Mother-Daughter Legacy

It turns out that your mom really was right about some things, right? Tori Berry, a physician assistant studies (PA) student at Kettering College, knows this all too well and will happily admit this truth.

Her mom, Teri, also attended Kettering College. She earned an associate degree in nursing in 1982. She went on to work as an RN in multiple departments within Kettering Health such as the SICU and PACU, eventually becoming the manager in that unit. She earned her master’s degree and became a nurse practitioner and continues to work at Soin Medical Center, still enjoying a thriving career, which began in the halls of Kettering College.

Not only did Tori’s mom graduate from Kettering College, but her sister-in-law also graduated from the nursing program in 2021 and also works at Soin Medical Center in the specialty care nursery. With two family members enjoying healthcare careers and telling her how wonderful the education and community is here, Tori had to see for herself, and she agrees, they were right.

Tori’s mom told her about the sense of community she had with her fellow classmates and that she is still best friends with some of them today. She always talked about how prestigious the programs at Kettering College are and how going there would also be the best path for Tori’s future. When her sister-in-law transferred here from another bigger college, she told Tori how much better organized and tight knit the Kettering College community is.

In addition to the positive feedback from her mom and sister-in-law, Tori also appreciated how close to her home Kettering College is to make her education even more convenient. She says, “I chose Kettering College over other PA programs in the area because of the longstanding reputation of accreditation and excellence. I also went to Catholic school my whole life, so I was really looking forward to learning in a faith-based environment again.”

She continues: “I think Kettering College has such a good reputation of producing highly educated healthcare professionals who are ready for the workforce, and it has high pass rates for their respective board certifications. For example, the PA class of 2022 had a 100% PANCE pass rate. The confidence and peace of mind this gives me is worth every penny!”

Tori looks forward to following in the footsteps of her family members and enjoying a fulfilling career in healthcare. When she graduates, she will become a PA who serves Kettering and the Greater Dayton community. We’re glad you’re here, Tori, and we’re glad you listened to your mom!
